Translation: Wound [Verse 1] A voice is telling us to stay here and keep looking for our roots To doubt every each page of the dark history When fighting through the difficult times, Utter the name of mother - the symbol of resilience It’s enough my eyes, do not pour like the black rain in the midnight Be sunny for a few seconds, but remember the day you fell The day you bent under the burden, and today’s the day to wait The world changes day to day, the wicked die and we’re still alive We get up fast from where’s we’re seated, and bad and good switch sides No one can truly stop the storms But hand in hand we can weather it Don’t be a part of the games played in the world Or you’ll be a stranger to yourself Don’t walk off the beaten path Evil deeds are whitewashed there, God’s name slapped on it Everything is stolen, oil, medicine and gold The land and the sea of the country is not worth a thing, All they got for us is weapons We’re on the wrong road, off the beaten path [Chorus] Silent and out-of-tune Instruments, pencils without colors and tips Without gunpowder and bullets, ready to shoot with our empty guns Trees tired and old, bodies burnt and roots cut down Can’t go forward, nor there’s going back, sitting on a treasure with no abundance But I swear, I swear on the plains and deserts I swear on the sun and the moon, on the war and the bread I will take my revenge one day, I will avenge our lost lives one day One day they’ll close the doors behind them, and we’ll be free They’ve talked shit about us for hundreds of times But you’ll see one day that instead of a rope We’ll have a flower garland around our necks [Verse 2] They want to take our lives like we’re chestnut trees Our throat is wounded and we cannot breathe There’s a whole on our side, left from knives and bullets No strength and life force left, our inside has fallen on the ground With their bitter tongues they want to crush you They suck you like leeches and won’t be sated until they explode The days pass like wind, and it’s already late All faces are yellow, all attentions divided The young boy is in constant sadness, medicine and ice in hand Tired and alone sits in the corner, not making a sound His face is dead so everyone’s putting a distance And he’s surprised that no one can hear his voice You try and try yet you cannot climb Some are still waiting for five oclock Some work twelve hour days, just to hear the instrument of pain play Some suffer despite standing on wealth Some laugh to your face and the moment you turn they stab you And your wound is flowing down towards your liver Some are sick and some ridicule There’s a flood somewhere and houses have come down Who’s going to answer? Put the people down with any excuse you find We only saw the worst, we grew old and are fed up We were always caught, but we’ll get to happiness even if it’s late [Chorus] Silent and out-of-tune Instruments, pencils without colors and tips Without gunpowder and bullets, ready to shoot with our empty guns Trees tired and old, bodies burnt and roots cut down Can’t go forward, nor there’s going back, sitting on a treasure with no abundance But I swear, I swear on the plains and deserts I swear on the sun and the moon, on the war and the bread I will take my revenge one day, I will avenge our lost lives one day One day they’ll close the doors behind them, and we’ll be free They’ve talked shit about us for hundreds of times But you’ll see one day that instead of a rope We’ll have a flower garland around our necks

Translation: Nights [Verse 1] I had a dream that I was watering the flowers in the garden The sun rose but had nothing to say, the scener was just a name People were laughing, together or apart they’d forgotten all the bitter memories I yearned to see such a day with my own eyes When the businesses of religion and politics were long gone When it’s spring and each second lasts a lifetime I imagined every day, every hour and every second Somewhere that’s free so my mom’s not scared Somewhere that my dad’s not tired of the injustices For a second I thought, wait this can’t be true Can I just sit here and look at this beautiful world? I thought to myself, one would do anything to have this Will pass the seven trials, yeah all of them They’ll give anything to have this dream I turned around and I realized I’m back in the garden Chorus: I had a dream that I was watering the flowers in the garden And then the earth split open and devoured me The sun went away, the black clouds darkened the sky The garden turned into thorns, colored with blood Verse 2 I am now somewhere with no view The laughing people are all separated Their minds trapped, those days won’t be coming back And I realized our problem is we’ve been forced on each other And I realized my problem is lack of funds The thorns have wounded my back with kindness A slave to the divine, my life withers fast Trapped within their web of lies we don’t even know what our goals are Let’s be united and then one day, The rules of those who have chained us and drunk our blood Will vanish It’s really our fault that we’re still bound by religion It has made our tongues heavy and our days routine Shoulders tired, since we’ve been carrying their tyranny on our backs And we’ve forgotten our tribes and our elders’ songs I got the blackest suffering in my heart I heard the pain and my blood boiled A handful of oppressors have taken everyone prisoners And the merciless laws don’t speak the language of humans One day, these imprisonments will end, Both when we’re asleep and when we’re awake The futile thoughts will get off the mind We’ll keep going forward and they’ll continue backwards Don’t be afraid, keep going, one day the night will turn into dawn Chorus: The moonlight brightens the whole path at midnight One day our hands will reach up and tear the black sky They’ll shred the shameful family tree It won’t matter how much they kiss the sacred grounds It won’t matter how much they kiss the sacred grounds They’ll shred the shameful family tree One day our hands will reach up and tear the black sky The moonlight brightens the whole path at midnights

Translation: Run [Verse 1] We keep walking on the concrete, where are we right now? I manipulated the story so it’s right where it needs to be It’s none of your business, I’ll walk the path that will keep me warm You? You’ll keep thinking of yourself It’s not good enough, my feet won’t walk Think for yourself see where these words come from Why are you just walking, why not running? Why don’t you care for anything other than money? You’re not really rich when you’re act is poor, There’s only one real mighty up above Just accept that within this hierarchy This is where you belong, which is better than falling You’re at your own rock bottom, so just look ahead This is just not your time yet... Chorus: Run, why are you deep in thoughts still? You got a bit of hope, what will you do with it? I’ve stood by you to solve the problems But I won’t be walking with a naysayer Who says my words are worth nothing? Keep walking! You won’t see it coming You look up in hopes of something coming down And you got nowhere to belong Verse 2 They tell me what is this rap thing? Whoever’s in it have risked a great deal for it Their good behaviour was just out of grudge And our upstairs was always the underground Got it? You know it’s not a game, When I was a boy rap took my heart away If I lose it one day, I won’t be able to walk That’s why I’m sitting and he’s the one fighting Someone once said: just leave if you’re not happy My city is without laws and there are no judges They said don’t let your brain be empty Like they want it to hold a wedding party My brain’s not empty yet, and these words are not a play There’s one path ahead ahead of me, no other way to go The story will be over before the crow gets home My dad always told his kids that you reap what you sow So why are you still sitting? Enough of it, don’t let it rot If you sit and wait for the answers, you’ll be in a rut Without these, all the words will back you up But as things are, you’re not a winner, heh Chorus: Run, why are you deep in thoughts still? You got a bit of hope, what will you do with it? I’ve stood by you to solve the problems But I won’t be walking with a naysayer Who says my words are worth nothing? Keep walking! You won’t see it coming You look up in hopes of something coming down And you got nowhere to belong

Translation: Evolvement Verse 1 Let me teach you the rules of the game up front Even if you don’t think my words are worth anything I put on my golden crown “Arabic Rap” is written on it, with diamonds This is the original rap, and the voice is coming from Iran Our goal is big, so we put these verses out there Our feet are on the ground, and our weapon is our faith Even if we couldn’t speak, we communicate with body language We behead and we recreate all the ominous pages of history We create wounds and then we’re silent since our hearts are impure We’re happy while everything we do is disgusting When we hear what’s said of us, we laugh because our minds are empty But we’re not terrorists, and not antihumanists When the decisions are tyrannical you just need to be opportunistic We’re in a fight all the time, but who is really behind it? A force is controlling us and we’re just looking at them Our thoughts are asleep, and they’ve all beed decided And execution is our final verdict And we fight for freedom constantly We walk on the path of peace like the current in cables, Like a hidden skin disease, the blood in the vains, There’s no fear, we’ll stand in front of tyranny like a pillar And this voice is the evidence, we write against evil openly Everyday you look around and can’t find a friend Everyone’s an air head, but your brain has a reason Has a reason for everything, So you try to guide them But they’re brains are locked, and you still try to find your audience in them Sit in my masterclass and I’ll teach you the ways of the world We suffer and we’re insulted, so much that we forget our own names You try to organize your thoughts But they still manage to pull you in Play around and be happy, why do you care what’s our essence? Chorus Start thinking, the light is near Start thinking, feel the spring in the air We don’t have a use for a long life We might even die without having a single good day Nothing will be solved as long as your mind is sick Nothing will be solved as long as your mind is sick Nothing will be solved, nothing will be solved We don’t use our brain even a little Verse 2 We hope that the earth is destroyed We think like a colonized country We got water but we’re waiting for rain And we only got a picture left from the good old days Forget these thoughts Humanity insists on destroying the earth over and over again Air raid siren in our ears since the childhood But I feel like God’s always with us Our good heart is our sin, both inside and outside our home country We try harder, every hour and every day Effort is good, but where’s the thinking? I know you’re tired, thinking you’re the loser in this game Khouzestan is hell too, the whole world is a divine test But we’re all siblings, and believe in reality Enough is enough, the time for reform has come Let’s change the way think from this day forward Teardrops running down the face, heart’s broken in pieces But piece by piece we’ll grow ur knowledge Everything can be fixed if your mindset is right Chorus Start thinking, the light is near Start thinking, feel the spring in the air We don’t have a use for a long life We might even die without having a single good day Nothing will be solved as long as your mind is sick Nothing will be solved as long as your mind is sick Nothing will be solved, nothing will be solved We don’t use our brain even a little

Translation: Boy [Verse 1] I’ve come, but not sure where I know where I am but don’t know much about it I don’t know what’s good or bad, I have no experience I don’t know where my thoughts are going Why does my heart beat fast sometimes? Why are my arms open to whoever arrives? Why am I away from the one who gave their heart to me? How old was I when my problems got ten fold? I took a look at myself and I realized I’m still standing and I’ve endured I realized it’s hard to take food from a gluttonous person It’s hard to go on, so tell my tongue to not to count these hardships It’s hard to be satisfied He’s thirty but still hasn’t started living Sen forgave all you’ve done to him And didn’t devote his life to evil deeds Where do you think you’re going with all these belongings? You think you’re gonna win? While I keep trying to go on this path that I’ve chosen, many who cared about me gave up on me I wasn’t afraid, and I didn’t hide from my fears My neck git thickened and the world turned into a game I’m fire, let me warm you Talk to me if you want to, I’ll give you a minute Why do you roll in mud just to stay alive? These are all the tales of my life Everything you say is black, I’ve seen it in me I’ve inhaled them [Break] Good things distanced themselves from me Everything was little for me, and too much for others No one can endure my wounds A lot of smoke running in my veins They didn’t think Sen stands a chance None came close to me They lied and they outnumbered me Then why did they hide from me? [Chorus] Fall on the ground, and stand up again Go all the way to the moon, don’t rely on the earth and its breaths Keep in mind that you can always hold someone’s hand to help But never extend a hand asking for help Use your brain and your tongue to arrive Who says it’s wrong to lead a simple life? If you think you can manage, come hop on the hard path If you’re not afraid of the difficulties Our lifetime passes by, I see it with my own eyes It’s telling me not to regret what you’ve one And let your thoughts be chants on your mouth [Verse 2] Every night I sit with a cigarette, thinking Sometimes I recite a few of my verses I line up word according to the mood I’m in I say to myself, let these young people hear my voice I know well, I’ve seen this world’s games Sometimes things are out of reach and you need to run after them Sometimes your tongue just doesn’t speak Your head is getting full instead Sometimes we slap ourselves to keep our face fresh They tell me let those wings get some air every now and then No one lives forever, so do what you need to as long as you’re alive Time’s expensive Say what you need to say, whisper if you need to The road back is long, money does not bring wealth My problems will never be over (when will the problems be over?) Who can hold the wind? Who can look at the moon and doesn’t like what they see? Is there anyone who’s seen the sun go dark? Has anyone seen a person with no troubles? Everything will be fine Don’t worry, the sun will come up Our faces will be beautiful like flowers, and out eyes will see flowers everywhere You can’t tell a human that this is enough, this world will be pure and clean Who knows who dies, who stays alive? Who is real and who is a lie? Come and learn how to be a wind like me Come hold my hands, you can do it Let’s put all our efforts together and grow each other We don’t know how many breath we got left The one who brought us to this world, will also take us away He sometimes gives us more, sometimes less What’s important is who is the one who stays in people’s minds? [Chorus] What’s the solution for these problems? Humans’ hearts are half light and half darkness You can’t tell one from another, because everyone’s the same No one will hear your call Don’t forget that losing is not in your blood No matter how little you are, you still exist So play your own instrument Come see the flowers, fall in love Your insides will be full of secrets, so write them down Someone’s sitting in your head, giving you the words We need to gather wood in this jungle

Translation: Cage Verse 1: There was not a single soul answering our question None of the mainstream thoughts in the society We just said yes to whatever our parents told And we turned into a nice fool at the end Then no one asked us “what do you do now”? Over here you can’t count on neither men nor women You are free to tell that the freedom is forbidden From little children to the eldest elderly, We all go six feet under There’s no difference between any of us after we burn So you help yourself with the afterlife, let the current one be ours When someone’s everyone’s idol, there’s no space for collective thinking When the cage is the safe space, to fly is a crime The earth prefers to swallow you whole rather than speaking So I prefer to speak out rather than swallowing I rarely saw the suns that are aware of the nights All men are Eves and all women are Adams Chorus: Good things are not counted as good here Enough said, I know it very well myself None of your words have truth in them I am tired, I am tired Good things are not counted as good here I want to forge my own path None of your words have truth in them I don’t wanna play another role anymore Verse 2: Boys have to hit their sisters in this society, so that the people won’t say they’re got no balls It seems girls are like the dead, because you say it’s better not to see their beauty, huh?* So better not to see at all, Because the consequence of your rape is an angry child Cry a river since everything you told your child was a lie This dripping blood is from the holiness of your blade You’re the phobia itself, thinking you’re the accumulation of everything that’s good: Conservative, Heterosexual and a consumer Come on down! The history is full of your types You suffocate lovers and let the thieves run amok You have to feel assured since you’re getting paid for it While I’m full of doubt You won’t hear the truth if you don’t give me the right of speaking You can’t even hear your child’s questions You worship both God and your race at the same time Our pain benefits you Your “must” is just a “maybe” for me Chorus: Good things are not counted as good here Enough said, I know it very well myself None of your words have truth in them I am tired, I am tired Good things are not counted as good here I want to forge my own path None of your words have truth in them I don’t wanna play another role anymore An Isfahani proverb says: It’s better not to see the beauty of the dead.

Translation: Eagle [Intro] Don’t pull a bag over my head when the gallows are set up for me So I can watch hyenas defeat a lion [Verse 1] This nation had a father, it wasn’t without a caravan We used to be an eagle ourselves Now the wing’s torn apart The bird that can’t fly, just jumps around We have no memories of good old days If we were hit by a ball, we wouldn’t move for a whole day We didn’t know what fear was, were virgins in this field We didn’t bend to pressure brother, even if our only weapon was to retreat To retreat, not to run Now we’re a dried up tree When will we be fruitful again? I don’t know But I know we were somehow assured Even if we were surrounded by a hundred armies of Reza Khan and British Empire They always scratched us off the history, the judge always set us on fire Is this world is the heaven, we’re half-burned firewood - still on fire I kept looking and couldn’t see a sign of the Lor people You must have had something in you that they tried to hold you down They only used you as a shield, for their army and Basij You’re always put on the frontlines, aren’t you, huh? I’m one of those guerillas who wanted a burial shroud instead of traditiona Lori clothes I’ve came out of this soil, and I’ll return to this very ground I’m holding a gun out of necessity, and war is a message to my enemy Otherwise those close to me have seen nothing but peace, even the unwanted guests We’d even sacrifice a cattle for them But you should spit on the bones who drop bombs on women and children and elderly If you were there you’d just punch him in the mouth The same mouth that that opened to order the missile strikes of defenseless people They’ve forgotten us, since forever till now But don’t laugh at these people… I know this story is not bitter for you [Chorus] This nation had a father, it wasn’t without a caravan We used to be an eagle ourselves Now the wing’s torn apart The bird that can’t fly, just jumps around We have no memories of good old days If we were hit by a ball, we wouldn’t move for a whole day [Verse 2] The Lori people have been standing strong like a mountain since the beginning Like Kay Lohrasb in the mountain, they’ll bury themselves in the mud but won’t accept tyranny They shine on darkness like the sun And they won’t back down even if they’re full of bullet holes We stood in the middle of the war zone and still breathed The evil had put both of his breasts in the man’s mouth The sound of cannons were high up the skies The shah that bombed his own people in Lorestan, paid the price for their blood From Tamoradi Valley to Khorram Abad and Lodab, all have seen that winter Where are you God? Untie this inextricable knot They attacked one by one Made the nomads of Iran run away from their own homeland Kurds and Turks and Lors… All were called to war I spit on the traitor dynasties that sent their messages to the foreigners Yeah, a hundred years ago, you put our hearts in a handmade black tent That got burned to the ground in the name of progress and civilization You devoured nature so you can steal oil silently? Their goal was to falsify history, to destroy our dialects and clothes and everything we got It’s true that although nothing is as pure as our hearts But we won’t have mercy if you encroach We didn’t surrender… Alexander and his army were pissed Even though we didn’t have much Our destiny was dark but as long as we existed, we’ve shone This nation is standing, smelling like Apiaceae Look at Ariobarzanes of Persis, Bibi Maryam, Ali Mardan Khan This nation stood for its right… sacrifices were made It didn’t bow down, not to the khan, not to the demon, not to the shah, no [Chorus] This nation had a father, it wasn’t without a caravan We used to be an eagle ourselves Now the wing’s torn apart The bird that can’t fly, just jumps around We have no memories of good old days If we were hit by a ball, we wouldn’t move for a whole day

about

“Seven Climes” (Original: هفت اقلیم) is an open-call based, collaborative music project I started during Covid-19 lockdowns, aiming to present the cultural and lingual diversity of the Iranian Hiphop scene, amplifying the voices of the marginalized groups, and showcasing the power of hiphop as a tool for preserving languages and oral history.

This album is the first result of this collective endeavor, and every purchase helps sustain the future albums and stories. Seven Climes Vol. II is set to be released in Summer 2023!

This project was partially funded by 4Culture. Special thanks to Jack Straw Cultural Center and Rockland Residency for their support.
